Nightmare. That’s what Liam McCarthy experienced on his T20I debut for Ireland. The 23-year-old right-arm fast bowler made his international (ODI) debut a month ago. Having conceded 93 runs against the West Indies, it wasn’t the best of starts for Liam.

But it turns out that wasn’t so bad. In the third and final T20I between Ireland and the West Indies, Liam bowled his quota of four overs and conceded 81 runs. It is the most expensive spell on debut by a bowler. Handed the ball in the 5th over, Liam went for 21 runs. Hoping for a change, Ireland captain Paul Stirling brought him back in the 9th over. This time, he went for 24 runs.
By his already poor standards, Lian went for 18 runs when brought back in the 14th over. And then in his last over (18th), Liam conceded 18 more runs, making it the second most expensive T20I spell of all time.
