Ex-Australian cricketer on Rohit Sharma

During the recent IND vs AUS fifth Test in Sydney, Australia’s former cricketer Simon Katich had some sharp words for India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma. Even though there were rumours about Rohit’s future in the Test team, with some reports suggesting he might retire, Rohit confidently declared he is “going nowhere.” Katich, however, jokingly said Rohit could excel in stand-up comedy, finding humour in the 37-year-old’s statements about his career. Katich told Star Sports, “With those numbers, it’s clear. It was very selfless of him to miss the Test. From the interview, you could say he’d do well in comedy after cricket.”

Tough challenges ahead against England

As India prepares for a challenging tour in England this June, Katich warned Rohit that the series might be difficult for someone at 37. “Only he knows whether he has the hunger and drive at 37 to go again. England is not going to be an easy series. England are on their way up. They have some good young quicks coming through. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are doing well.” he said.

In his past seven Tests against England, he has gathered 524 runs, averaging 40.30, with one century and two fifties. While the England series is still a few months away, Rohit’s immediate challenge is the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Before that, he will face England’s pace attack in a three-match ODI series at home, starting on February 6. It will be a big challenge for the player as he is still out of form, and needs to prove himself to get ready for the Champions Trophy.

During India’s recent tour of Australia, Rohit’s recent performance was underwhelming, scoring just 31 runs in 5 innings with an average of 6.20, before opting out of the final Test. India lost the series 3-1, losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade.
