KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Rylie West obtained the College of Tennessee’s highest scholar honor – the Torchbearer Award.
“I’m overjoyed for Rylie,” head coach Karen Weekly stated. “She exemplifies every part it means to be a Torchbearer. She has grown a lot as a servant chief throughout her 4 years at Tennessee and embraces each alternative to positively influence these round her. She has a coronary heart for folks and her beneficiant spirit is infectious. We’re blessed that she is a Woman Vol and extremely proud that she’s going to now eternally be referred to as a Tennessee Torchbearer.”
It’s the second consecutive 12 months Tennessee softball had a participant obtain the Torchbearer Award, following Kiki Milloy’s recognition final season. The primary Torchbearers had been awarded in 1931, and West is the thirtieth student-athlete to obtain the respect and the second softball participant to earn this recognition.

It’s the first time since 1957 and 1958 {that a} single crew has had back-to-back Torchbearer recipients. It’ll even be the primary time ever Torchbearer Award winners have performed collectively.
The Torchbearer is the best scholar honor conferred by the College of Tennessee. Torchbearers are seniors who’ve served their alma mater with total excellence. The Torchbearer is awarded for tutorial achievement and excellent dedication to others as demonstrated by the coed’s varied actions and important contributions to the college and the group.
College students chosen for this award embody the Volunteer spirit, displaying initiative and repair in the most effective pursuits of each the college and their fellow college students. Recognition as a Torchbearer reminds all college students that those that bear the torch of enlightenment shadow themselves to offer gentle to others.
Chancellor Donde Plowman together with Rylie’s dad, Troy, and your entire Tennessee softball crew and workers had been available to shock the senior outfielder with the respect.
