LAS VEGAS — San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw suffered a left Achilles tendon damage within the second quarter of Sunday’s Tremendous Bowl LVIII towards the Kansas Metropolis Chiefs.
Greenlaw’s damage occurred after a San Francisco punt with 9:26 left within the second quarter. Greenlaw was not on the sphere for the punt and was merely working again onto the sphere for the following defensive sequence when he went down after taking a step towards the sphere.
It was a non-contact damage, and although Greenlaw was in a position to hobble to the sideline, he was rapidly taken to the locker room on a cart and was in tears, in line with the CBS broadcast.
The Niners mentioned the damage was to Greenlaw’s Achilles and designated his return as questionable.
Greenlaw had three tackles earlier than the damage. Oren Burks changed him at weakside linebacker.
